Thinksport Sunscreen Review: A Brand That Can Be Trusted

thinksport sunscreen

When the sun comes out, families head outside for many activities. Exploring the outdoors is a great way to enjoy time together, but it can also be dangerous if one is over-exposed to the sun. Taking the time to buy a trusted sun screen is the best way to keep a day outside from turning into a nightmare sun burn. As a part of the Thinksport Sunscreen review, we compared some of our favorite brands to make the choice of sunscreen easier.

What Is Thinksport Sunscreen?

Thinksport Sunscreen is a sunscreen lotion that provides a physical barrier instead of a chemical barrier against UV rays. Many other sunscreens, including those that we had to spray on, use an artificial chemical to create the sun barrier. Thinksport is sold as "reef-safe" and made with far fewer chemicals that other brands. This item is mineral-based.

Product Specs

Thinksport Sunscreen is made with non-nano zinc oxide, which provides water resistant protection. It is rated up to SPF 50. This product comes in a basic formula, an infant formula and one made specially for children. The lotion is thick and often harder to rub in than other products, but this also helps to show the user areas they may have missed. It does tend to leave the white residue on the skin we expect from a zinc oxide lotion.

Pricing

Of all the products contained on the Thinksport Sunscreen review, Thinksport itself is the most costly. A 6 ounce tube can be purchased for just over $20. The cost is tied to the higher quality, non-chemical ingredients that make up the sunscreen. Another big difference between this brand and lower cost items is that this is a barrier and not a chemical sunscreen.

Australian Gold X-treme Sport Spray Gel is an economical sunscreen that is easy to apply and clear. It is a chemical sunscreen and does not give a physical barrier to protect from UV damage. While the price is low, this product is not a viable option for those looking for something that is mineral-based.

As far as chemical sunscreens go, this product is relatively thin and easy to apply. It also comes with no added perfumes, so many users report that there really is not a smell to it. There are added moisturizers and vitamins that provide a bonus level of skin support. It is rated for full-spectrum protection lasting up to 80 minutes in water.

The No-Ad lotion is the cheapest sunscreen on the list and comes in the largest package. This is a chemical sunscreen made to get the job done without the frills or extras. The sunscreen is also the thinnest of the lotions, so it is easy to put on but often takes a significant amount to get full coverage.

We know Neutrogena for skin care, and this sunscreen lotion did not disappoint. Even though it is a chemical sunscreen, there were enough added ingredients to give the user added value. This sunscreen is ranked on most top ten lists as among the best chemical sunscreens as far as warding off sunburns goes. It can have a glue-like feel out of the bottle that some users don't enjoy, however.

Thinksport Sunscreen Review: Conclusion

After sampling all the product in the Thinksport Sunscreen review, it became clear pretty quickly that there were some very distinct reasons the Thinksport products are more costly. Instead of using a traditional formula heavy in chemicals, Thinksport went a more health-conscious route. This is not a standard sunscreen we are going to grab at the local discount store, but maybe it is time we invested in a better quality sunscreen solution.

Non-Chemical Barrier

While is is possible to get the needed level of protection from a chemical sunscreen like the Australian Gold or a Coppertone product, there just is not enough information out there to prove that the use of nano zinc or chemicals is not impacting the human body. Thinksport has erred on the side of caution as they created a non-chemical barrier with non-nano zinc oxide.

The use of minerals is the key to the success of the Thinksport line of products. We found all the lotions to be scented nicely and family friendly. There was also not the dreaded sticky feeling we got from the Neutrogena product. The Neutrogena product was a nice choice for adults but would be a hard sell for wiggly children trying not to get the glue-like lotion all over the place before it dried.

Product Texture and Quality

The texture and consistency of the products on the list also varied significantly. The Thinksport brand was the thickest, so this meant it was more work to get it applied. While this may seem like a negative, the white tint helps to show us exactly where the skin was covered. The gel product on the list nicely combined the concepts of wet and thick. The clear gel nature of the gel made it seem like it should be more of a watery texture, but it was not.

The gel was thicker than we expected, and this might explain why it was not as easy to use when we tried to spray it. It seemed they tried to give the customer the best of a lotion and spray in one, but this didn't always work out. The blobs of gel and troublesome unpredictability of the nozzle finally meant we just opened up the bottle to apply it.

While there are some decent sunscreens, like the No-Ad product, that can be bought for less than a dollar an ounce, we found that you often get what you pay for. It is possible to get a barrier to protect against sunburn, but the lotion will not be anywhere near the quality we found in the Thinksport Sunscreen products.

Final Rating for Thinksport Sunscreen

For our Thinksport Sunscreen review panel, the biggest choice was really just which of the Thinksport line was right for us. Everything about this line, from the attention to detail to the safety of the product and the fresh scent, set their products apart.

The children's and infant products from Thinksport were almost better than the adult versions, with a hint of sweetness in the smell. We enjoyed the fact that this lotion was not sticky as it dried. Where some users might see the white tint as an issue, it was reassuring to see the sunscreen in place. Unlike a clear gel or something more watery, this lotion is visible. We loved this product, give it five out of five stars, and will be using it exclusively from here on out.
